a/c blows cold mist

My a/c system blows cold. But sometimes blows cold mist. Looks kinda cool though, but car starts to smell afterwards.

I don't think the evap. hose is clogged, since there's a puddle of water under the car.

Any suggestions?

I seem to remember a TSB about this; search alldata.com (go to the DIY part of the website)... can't remember what the problem or fix was, though.

I am no expert on AC but is the air/mist coming out cold? You could always get some gauges to check to see if the freon pressures are right in the system.

Yes, the mist is cold. The air comming out of the vent doesn't smell. Only when it settles on the car's fabric.

I've been told that the expansion valve is making the freon really cold, causing mist. My a/c is ice cold...burrrrrh.

I also keep my a/c setting at max cool, and my fan at lowest speed. I've been told this causes mist as well.

The weather is hot but not humid. So humidity is not the problem.

Thanks for the responses. I'll test these theories and keep you guys posted.

Thanks again.

update....

I ran my a/c on a higher setting for a week, and had no mist comming out of the vents. So I guess, the lowest cool setting, makes the air too cold...causing mist.

Maybe the expansion valve is faulty. My passengers love the mist effect though.
