Fluids

I was wondering what fluids are best to use in our cars? I need to change them all so i need suggestions on what to buy. I run Castrol 20w-50 in the crank case and i want to know what to use in the tranny and diff.? It is a V-6 5 spd. What type of anti freeze? What type of gas? 87, 89, 93? Just let me know what you use. Thanks

the car came with the regular green antifreeze but i bought the orange one which is compatible with all GMs, Havoline makes it. ABout gas, you should use what the manual recommends which is regular.

Any reason for 20w50? I run 10w30...

I stick to name brands, but it's up to you. Rear diff can take 80w90. If you go to synthetics on a high mileage part, you might get leaks; synthetic molecules are smaller then organic "dinosaur" oil molecules, so the synth might leak past worn-out seals where dino stuff wouldn't.

Compression is low, all we need is 87. But I still run 93, just because I can. Lately I've been running 89 because of my leaking-for-almost-2-years injectors... I should really fix that sometime soon.

I run 10w40 in the motor... run 20w50 if you're burning oil... might help stop some of the leakage.

The T5 tranny gets 2.5 quarts of Dexron Automatic Tranny Fluid

Rear diff gets 75w to 90w.

I run a 60/40 mix of Water/Antifreeze... don't think it matters what antifreeze you use, really...

Gas? 93. But blowing 6 psi boost... you sorta have to...

As far as the 20w50 goes the place that bulit my motor said that is what i have to run to avoid messing up my warrarnty cause they said it doesnt gunk up the internals, but anyway, the cars comp is 9.0:1, could i run 87? i thought 93 burned cleaner? what is the difference, really? so what do you think about the tranny? what goes in there?

I can true that !. Currently did a timing chain/gear/cog replacement. along with all new water pump gaskets and timing chain cover gaskets yadda yadda.

Went to pep boys around the corner here in woodland hills Ca, Decided to go to a synthetic blend.

Now a while back my car would smoke from the engine compartment with white smoke. oil leaks somewhere from the top rear of the engine makes its way down the dirvers side, and drips onto the exhaust pipe, Doh ! ya it burns it up. Well that had stopped for a long time.

Since I put the synthetic blend in. It's back again. really embarrasing at every stop. :-(

185,XXX miles on my 85 2.8 w/ t5
