wire connected to oil filter

what is this wire that is connected to the oil filter? it is in plain view from the driver side. what does it do?

I've never seen a wire connected to the oil filter, but the oil pressure sendir is right above the oil filter...I think(never had to mess with mine yet). That has a wire going to it. Are you sure that's not what you're seeing?

Yes, what 2.8 said. I used to have a sending unit there myself, but it's just a manual line for my manual pressure gauge after the sending unit went and made me think I was doing 10psi down the freeway.

Ah well. One of these days I'll fork out that 80bux or whatever it was and make a split line from there.

yea i didnt mean connected to the actual filter i just meant right by it. the reason i asked this question is that for some odd reason i wanted to see if there was a difference with it being unconnected so i ran my car for approx 1 minute with it unplugged.

Yah, having it unplugged won't harm anything. It's basically just the sending unit plug to the gauge and that's pretty much it. From my understanding the ECU dosn't use that line in any way. That's why I jusy have a manual gauge connected to it.
