Jetchips
Hey, i have a quick question for everyone. I am trying to get more power out of a 3.1 and so far i have done intake and exhaust mods. The power improved a decent amount and now it does run stronger and better but i still want more. I was thinking maybe a msd coil or Jetchip. Now the question is, do you think a Jetchip is worth the money. I know of course im not gonna get that much but the engine needs more umph! so is it worth it? Anyone know what kind of power i should expect with these mods or just i just forget it? Thanks a lot!

Power from a chip, on a lightly modded vehicle? Ah... no.
Driveability? Sure. Maybe on the timing, a little more avg hp... but nothing remarkable. Wha exactly have you done?

try the hypertech chip and thermostat....it's less expensive than the jetchip and looks like it will do the same...... http://www.thunderracing.com/index.c...ategoryid=1121

You have done intake and exhaust. Next would be to help improve spark. Invest in the msd coil, and some good plug wires like msd, taylor, accel, etc. Also a solid brass cap n rotor.
If you dont have/plan on running lots of electrical componets, a power crank pully is good idea.
As for chip, yea, you could gain a little from a jetchip. but to gain the best from a chip is to have one custom burned. Personally I would prefure a hypertech over a jet, but they dont make them anymore. I dont have the equipment to make my own chip, and I dont understand the talk, so I'm not eager to walk it.

Alright thanks for all of the input guys. I am actually helping out my cousin with hith 3.1 in his w-body. I know this is a camaro site but yea same engine. He has a good intake setup on it and exhaust and he just realized last night he may need a new cat. I told him to get a high flow one but he is alittle worried that he will lose more backpressure becuase he already has a glasspack on it. The car runs great as is so do you think a high flow cat will make it any worse or help him? Anyway yea not really sure about the jet chip anymore. See he has the 3.1 with the DIS ignition there fore he can't get a cam. He is thinking about getting the 3 msd coils and an underdrive pulley, and the Comp cams 1.52 magnum roller tip rockers too. Im pretty sure that the roller rockers will work on his 3.1. Thanks for the replies!

I bought my Jet Stage II chip from truckperformance.com for $150. Didn't feel any difference in HP but i seem to be getting better gas milage. IMO, it really isn't worth it.

My friend now has it on his V6, he claims the car shifts smoother, but I'm not quite so sure about that. The chip shouldn't have anything to do with shifting.

I've considered buying the equipment to do custom PROMS when I have some money. I think I have the experience to get it all going. I haven't done much research, but I wouldn't expect the best from a chip that's done with a really general purpose in mind.

I had Hypertech, Sucks
A buddy had a jet chip, Fair
I bought a fast chip stage 2 and noticed a nice improvment...
Nothing will beat a cam, or rockers...
