Performance Parts????

Hey guys, just thought I'd post a quick list of performance parts that "I" know of. If you see anything that I'm missing, let me know. I'm really interested to hear if anyone knows of any replacement lower intake, or set of larger runners for the motor.

Or better yet, a set of performance cyl heads.

1 - 1.52:1 or 1.6:1 Roller Rockers from COMP CAMS
2 - 2.8 / 3.1 / 3.4 interchangability
3 - Accel, Jacobs, and CompCams Firebird Ignition coils
4 - Aluminum Flywheel
5 - Headers
6 - Larger / bored throttle body
7 - Larger fuel injectors
8 - Fuel Pressure regulator
9 - A vast assortment of camshafts

Is there anything else I'm missing? I'm curious if any company has made replacement cyl heads, intake manifolds, runners, etc.

Any news?

Also, before worrying about 'performance' upgrades, worry about getting the car back to stock. DO a search for TomP's Major TuneUp post, for that side of things.

Also, don't forget our mega restrictive exhaust. A Dynomax (or your brand of choice) catback will open things up nicely - new headers, Y pipe, and catback would REALLY open things up!

Doward, yeah... I hope this isn't a bad thing.. hehe.. but this isn't for a 3rd gen. I used to have an 82 TransAm, and I intend to get another, which is why I stay here. However, I have the same motor in my 87 Fiero SE / V6 that you guys have.

I actually just recently rebuilt my motor.

It started out life as a 2.8, but I just had it rebuilt with a 3.1 crank and rods, Hypertuetectic aluminum .040 overbore pistons (the 8.5:1 compression kind). ARI Racing Phase-2 Camshaft, 1.52:1 roller rockers, aluminum flywheel, ported / polished intake, runners, and plenum. Bored out throttle body, larger fuel injectors.. etc.

After all this work, I'm thinking that I probably only putting out maybe 175-180 horsepower now.. instead of the 140 I was putting out stock. I'd like some more, and from what i understand, everyone says that the cyl heads are the most restrictive.

The heads aren't TOO horrid... compared some other stock heads I could think of.

Yeah, supersix basically just ports the hell outta the stockers. Still, better than stock, right?

Doward,

Yeah.. I was just hoping there would be something like.. maybe a replacement for the cyl head from Edelbrock or someone. They make excellent replacement cyl heads for the small block chevy... just not the V6/60!

Their is a high volume oil pump for this engine.

Cloyes roller timing chain

Accel and few others make ICM for these.

Thanks Dale,

A long time ago I had the Hypertech chip.. it didn't seem to do anything at all. Of course, at the time, I didn't have any modifications, but it seemed like a waste. If I get one now, I'm going to have a custom burned chip.

I get about 35psi of oil pressure at idle, and 45-50 under normal driving with 5W-30 Synthetic oil. I was thinking about a hi-volume oil pump, but that would just sap power from the car.

Todd

1 - 1.52:1 or 1.6:1 Roller Rockers from COMP CAMS

1.52 unless you change to 105 or was it 110 lbs valve springs then 1.6

2 - 2.8 / 3.1 / 3.4 interchangability

3.4 is the way to go

3 - Accel, Jacobs, and CompCams Firebird Ignition coils

MSD Coil

4 - Aluminum Flywheel

Over kill

5 - Headers
Yes, if you can find them, sarkj@ocps.net has an original set for sale

6 - Larger / bored throttle body
Helps, but bore upper and lower plenum first

7 - Larger fuel injectors
No need, get sotkc ones flow matched

8 - Fuel Pressure regulator
No real need

9 - A vast assortment of camshafts
As aggressive as teh stock PCM will go
