need help with prblm

My car died (86 camaro 2.8) i think it might be the fule line clogged or maybe the injectors clogged
I ranout of gas and after i filled the tank it started to stall. i would start it then it quickly would die on me. I suspect that any debris that would be floating in the tank went into the pump. But the fuel is running through. the fuel lines squirted gas when the fuel pump turned on. any ideas?

What kind of pressure is the fuel at. If its really low then the car will stall.

You could check your ECM fuse to see if its blown if not get a pressure tester and see how the Fuel pump is doing for pressure.

It should more than squirt. If this is an 86 its MPFI and a squirt is no gonna do it. It needs 34-47 PSI. Sounds like you burnt up the pump running it to low on gas. The gas actualy cools the pump and running even low on gas all the time will kill one. Time to hack ahole in the body or yank the rear end so you can get at th gas tank.

That would be because the pump is pushing enough ful into the line for the cold start valve to kick it over a sec but not enough pressue for the fuel injectors.

If you can unhook the gas line and see it squirt gas, its bad. It should blow gas out like a fire hose if the pump is working right.

I really dought that enough dirt got past that fuel filter to clogg every injector. It would atleast run some.

How did he check the fuel pressure??? 34-47 psi is allot compared to the 6-8 psi a carbed car uses.

Change the fuel filter first if you think its a flow problem.

i dont know what happened but we opened the fuel line where the connecter is in the engine bay and turned the fuel pump on, the gas was flowing. we hooked it back up and it started and i was able to drive it home. im going to get it looked at though to make sure nothin is wrong. I dont know what i did but I guess it was right whatever it was.

And thanks for your help Gumby. Its really appreciated.
by the way, do you know where the fuel filter is located. i heard its like a sock over the pump, but im not quite sure and i dont want to go ripping into the tank to see.

You might of had some air in the line that needd push through???

Fuel filter is kinda behind the driver side back seat, under the car. Large sivler can thingy. Its a pain to change as the lines twist often, which means to need to splice in new connectors or get the filter just like it but with nipple ends. [ on the shelf at autozone bythe oil filters] So you would need some hi pressure or stainless coverd hose and a few clamps to patch it in.

I didn't even get one lose so just cut mine out with bolt cutters and did the patch job with stainless line and double clamps on each end 8 clmaps total.
