maf sensor question

ok here is the deal. I have had hesitation at 3/4 to wot and sometimes all the way through. Today I was checking all the connections to the sensors and I forgot to hook the maf back up. took the car out for a drive and it ran fine no hesitation. What does unplugging the the maf sensor do because it ran fine not hook up but when I plugged it back up it started the hesitation again.

If the MAF is not hooked up, the computer will substitute it's own preprogramed readings based on input from the other sensors.
It also means that your MAF is probably crapped. Do some tests for it & find out.

I have been told that unhooking and hooking up the MAF with the battery still hooked up with fry the MAF. Your suppose to unhook the batt every time you touch the MAF connector.

I have been doing that for years, my MAF is fine. But most times I disconnect the battery before taking anything electrical off.
