3.1 swap

Hey guys i'm kinda new to the board but i was reading about some people doing 2.8 to 3.1 swaps and was wondering what exactly is involved in this. I was also wondering about how much more power the 3.1 has in comparison to the 2.8. Thanks for your help.

skip the 3.1 and go strait to the 3.4. Search button is your friend as this has been talked about alot.

Yeah just click and make sure to choose the "v6 forum" otherwise youll get messages from the entire thirdgen.org forum area.

Swaps like 2.8/2.8, 2.8/3.1, or 2.8/3.4 are straightforward:

1. Remove old engine
2. Strip all intake/exhaust/ignition parts from old engine
3. Strip all intake/exhaust/ignition parts from new engine
4. Install old intake/exhaust/ignition onto new engine
5. Put new engine in.

But of course there's a lot of work involved in getting to those points. Never take the heads off the new engine! Putting a new timing chain on the "newer" motor is a good idea if you have the tools/resources to do so.

For pics of a 2.8/2.8 swap, in which a 2.8/3.1 or 2.8/3.4 swap would look virtually the same except for the engine block itself, see http://www.geocities.com/tomp_3rdgen to see the swap I helped an old friend (also named Tom) with.
