3.1 trransverse vs. 3.1 normal mount

Okay, I'm wondering the major differences between the LHO that's found in W-bodies versus the LHO found in F-bodies. I own an '89 GP with the LHO in it (old dog of a motor, but still has power) and the only thing I know is that it's distributorless - it uses coil packs and thus has the distributor hole blocked off. Say I wanted to swap that old thing into an F-body that had a junker 2.8 in it - what would be some of the difficulties and frustrations I would encounter?

the biggest and main problem is that the starter is on the opposite side of the block. if you can find a simple fix for this, you should be okay. you gotta make a new flywheel sheild for accomodate the starter. if you can put a distrutor in it, i'd guess that to be your best bet rather than switching computers to keep the DIS ignition.

The mounts are different on the vehicle, yes. The bolts on the engine block, though, should be the same?

Knowing GM, they're diffent, factory available only & cost too much. Especially from gmpartsdirect.com, or whatever that web site is.

Not according to what I found in doing research on what block to use after my fiero broke the crank taking the block with it.

They FWD and RWD blocks are not interchangable. Its not just the motor mounts, its the positioning on the block also. The Aluminum GM bowtie block has bosses for FWD and RWD- the only one that will interchange (as well as provisions for a left side and right side starter mount.

So, like, unless you're a masochist and realy really like daunting challenges, it isn't a very feasible thing to do, eh? Aw, crumbs. Well, unless I had the ability to fabricate some metal chunks, which I do not. I suppose it would be MUCH simpler for me to find a decent 3.1 or 2.8 to toss into a good-body/bad-engine firebird... I was just kicking the idea around, wanted to see what everyone thought of it. Thanks. Bummer - it would be so cool having a v6 firebird to use as a daily driver, and save the GTA as my weekend/going to church car. Hey I know - just BUY a decent v6 firebird!!!

Thank you and now I remeber where I got the info from my GMHPP catalog. That had been driving me nuts since I posted in this thread.
