odomater question?
ok, so i just purchased a 140 mph speedo cluster, and it has 163 thousand miles on it, my car only has 136 thousand miles, is there any way i can turn it back (essentially odomiter fruad, but not wrong in this case) i take pride in my miles, and i want everyone to be actually on my car, that way when the time comes for me to brag about 250 k i know my car has actually gone 250k.
if any one knows i would realy apriciate it

ususally a speedo shop will set the miles right if you have them install it . it could alsoneed to be calibrated if it is cable type.

NEVERMIND, I TOOK APART THE 140MPH oops caps lock. i took apart the 140MPH speedo and seperated the odometer from it, so i can just attatch my odometer to the 140mph one. cool.

wonder if it will work w/my two clusters. If not, how difficult was it toget to teh mile markers? I want to set the "new" one to match the old one also (Yes, it reads more miles than current)

or: you could do what i am going to do, just swap out the guts and face, also pictured below. the reasion behind me doing this and not swapping the whole cluster is well..... i kinda broke part of th new speedo getting the odometer loose. hopefully the rest of the speedo is thwe same, or i just wasted twenty bucks

You know they says its suppose to be so hard to roll back and OD but every time I have had one out. All it took was a little pressure and you could roll it where ever you wanted it.

So does it read speed correctly? I know some say it wont but some say it will. Ive never bothered to mess with one long enough to find out.

I was able to adjust the new one to read same as old one laast night. Took about 30~45 min total. Now they both read142k & change
On your first pic, looking at it, I was able to pry the left side out & raise the pin so I could adjust the milage, and put some tape across te numbers so they wouldn't spin while putting the pin back in.

Sorry for bringing this one back from the dead, but
I just bought a 145 speedo for my RS, so now I have to get the milage correct. After reading this, I plan on taking off the odometer from my RS and replacing it with the one in the 145 speedo. My questions are: How hard is it to do this? Is there anything special I need to do or to look out for? And how breakable is everything behind the face plate?
Thanks!
BTW- If it makes any difference, the 145 odometer reads 18,663.4 and my original one reads 958.0

I thought I heard somewhere that they now make odometers tamper proof and not allow them to be wound back.....something about white lines appearing between the numbers to show that it has been tampered with.
Anyone else hear of this?? I guess maybe thiis isn't the case judging by the above, unless maybe only after a certain year????
