What is this hatch pull down thing I've seen talked about on other threads? My hatch has pistons that are toast. Is there a motor thats supposed to raise and lower these things?
There's a motor (as an option) that pulls the hatch closed, and pops it up. NOT all the way up, just basically locks and unlocks it.
If your hatch isn't holding up, you'll need new hatch shocks....the black things on each side of it.

All of the repair and replace options you need for a "hatch pull down motor" TDS up top- They are a board sponsor.

Be careful, even though you think the struts are shot, they're probably still helping you raise the glass. That glass is HEAVY when you have no gas-assist. So make sure to brace that hatch up when you remove the "old" struts... you don't want yourself losing your neck from that heavy hatchback falling on you!

I was standing in the hatch when I popped the last strut off- and the damn thing nearly bent my neck sideways (I was holding the hatch up with my head)

Hahaha, sounds like me when i dropped my transmission, the first time I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't come out of the bellhousing and noticed the tourque arm.
I took that off and the fricken thing landed on my chest and I had the output end right in my face, so I got a bunch of transmission fluid all over my neck and face and the wind was knocked out of me hahah, kinda funny looking back now.
