How to avoid this...

I was driving to the LA Auto Show when my car had a horrible miss. Well I finally noticed that this happened.

Do you guys run heat shields or just plain old wires?

Mine are custom length also, and I have wrapped some heat resistant tape to the last 2-3".

I have stock manifolds.

MSD 8mm bare wires, I cut them more or less like the stock. As long as you think out the routing and use retainers of somesort you should be fine.

Until you get an engine fire, which eats the Accel 8mm wires & the separators

Normally I don't nitpick spelling.. but dude, that's going too far.. try "wrapped"... oi.

I too run accel 8mm custom v8 kit.. 26 bucks.. 1 hour build.. two spare wires.

If you want obscene durability, I've heard wonderful things about the accel 8.8mm kits.

I use MSD 8.5mm wires, custom set, and like Dale I buy the v8 kit so I get two extra wires for only $10 more. I don't use any heat shields; in fact, I took the shields off that were around the spark plugs. My wires are routed "up", level off with the height of the plenum, and go back to the dist. They're held together with Moroso wire separators. It all looks like one of those V8 wire loom setups... and I haven't ever burnt a plug wire.

YES
I definetly felt smoother idle & more ommph with the Accel 8.8s I installed.
I use lots of plastic wire separators no buring in years or many miles.
Accel makes great stuff!

Gosh I have the MSD GM Blaster coil and I think 8.8 Accel wires and didn't really notice a difference in power or gas mileage. If you want to run heat shields I've seen ACDelco still sells them part #8013. I only have a heat shield on the #1 cylinder and I find it odd that none of the other cylinders have them. I guess the previous owner must have lost them.

Should I order the HEI style wires or the regular ones, or is there a difference?
