well, I got a 3.1, but its around 200k.

I belive tomp has the most miles on this board.

 

While picking up the sticker for my plates today

[ It my B-day today, no applause plz]

I notice I had exactly 214,000 miles on the clock.

Got it around 168,000, put in a new T5 at 204,000

 

Mine have 114 500 miles with original engine and transmission

 

123,800 on a 3.1L

 

223,000 original miles, and still getting 30 miles/gallon total freeway driving

 

Happy bd G! I have 107k and the rods, lifters and pistons(well the tops is all i could see of the pistons) still look brand new. On a 85 too, i dont think the prev owner drove it very much!

 

i have 136K rebuilt at 110k (acording to prior owner, runs great so i assume he is telling the truth, never seen cleaner oil after 2k then in my car......) Tomp has somthing like 250k on his 2.8L. but that thing is NOT STOCK.

EDIT: happy b-day gumby,my b-day was the 29th. i am 20 now (wow, so much wisdom i hardly know what to do with it )

 

I have 155k miles (255k km), allegedly rebuilt somewhere around 125k miles (200k km). Transmission is still original with pita reverse gear.

 

136,xxx original motor/ trans... still running strong

 

199,430 on my carb'd 2.8! Power has gone MIA

 

112k on the 2.8, when a rod bearing went, now about 5500 on the rebuilt 3.1, going great!

 

194,7xx and it has just gone out on me. I'll save it for rebuilding and put it in a different car. I think I am headed for a new 3.4. Trans is still going strong though...

 

How did it die?

 

Bad evap can+good vacuum lines+gas flowing through the vacuum system and getting in the cylinders, creating extra puddles of gas. Turn engine, get nothing but a lot of sputtering. Let it sit, gas gets in oil. Turn engine over, kiss bearings goodbye.

The equation when I got the car was:
bad evap can+crappy junk vac lines=air in the vac lines instead of gas. Engine gets hot, it stalls when braking due to excess air. Did not notice bad evap can until new vac lines went in over the summer, ALL of them. Ran great though, with dark oil. change oil to wrong weight (how was I supposed to know? High performance engine, high performance oil, right? No manual either) and lifters start making noise. It went to hell from there...

 

You guys are not going to believe this, but I just got off of another forum that I frequent and was talking with a moderator who had an old Chevy s10 Blazer with the carbureted 2.8 who said that he had +400K ORIGINAL miles on the ORIGINAL motor when the camshaft finally "flattened out" and the motor died. Granted, that's not the VIN 1 F-body engine (I think the Blazer had a VIN B), but they're essentially the same thing. The guy said his dad bought it brand new and took religious care of it, and then the guy inherited it at about 250K and put the remainder of the 400K on it himself, taking the same care of it as his father did.

My Camaro (1984) has about 140K on it right now, still running good. Of course, I won't end up getting 400K on it with the way I drive...

 

My 1985 Balzer 2.8 had 211,500 when it died.
Now it's also 3.4 powered.
What year was that Blazer & was truck a 49 state vehcile (not residing in California)?

 

I think it was a Virginia vehicle, would have been right around the same year as yours. I'd have to ask the guy to be sure.

Karl i got rid of the block set it out on the sidewalk with crank and all damaged parts ecept the heads and old tranny. was gone in less then a day.

 

Yep scrapers are everywhere. Never leave anything you want outside over night, they will take that too.

No to stereotype anyone but most scrapers around me are two guys in an old truck who's whole living is made off of scraping.
So anything made of metal in sight is taken. They mostly do it while people are asleep or at work. I never see them but see them near the scrap yard full of junk all the time.

Buddy lost a fridge full of beer like that. It was on the back porch when he went to sleep, it was gone in the morning.

 

I left it out there for them to take. When we got a new washer and dryer we went to grab lunch and came back and the old washer and dryer were allready gone. Last week i was cleaning the grague there was allot of crap i had no use for so i put it on a pallet for them and they took it all the damn thing was packed.

p.s. You guys dont ever complain about changing plugs and wires on your third gens , these 4th gens are a bitc* My hands are so beat up from changing them !!!

 

ha ha, yeah I've heard the fourth-gen's are REAL fun to change the plugs on, even with the V6. Of course, I wouldn't expect it to be a breeze with the motor halfway under the windshield...

 

143k/mi on my 89 t-top RS right now. She's spending most of the time in the garage at the moment awaiting for me to get enough money for a trans rebuild and a new trans cooler.
