Well i thought i had an exauhst leak so i was messing with my car today. I stuck a hose in the pcv hole with the motor running and the ticking got louder. So i took the pass side valve cover off and looked at the rocker arms, the rear most one was a little loose, so i turned and still loose , turn and turn and turn and it got tight BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the nut is along way down the bolt. WAY more than the others. COllapsed lifter? correct?
Car runs fine just has the tap tap tap tap that cant be heard when driving, only at idle.
Now im getting a 3.4 for the car this summer SO i really dont want to put a cam and lifter set in it.
What would you do?

BTW did i mention how much 2.8's SUCK!!!!!???

yeah, I thought I had an exhaust leak on the passenger side, so i replaced all of the gaskets over there, but still had my tick. I have come to the conclusion that it is a collapsed lifter. I am going to be getting a 3.4 in the fall, so i think I'll just suck it up and run the car as-is, if it dies, then the 3.4 will be coming sooner than later.

I had to replace 3 of my lifters with 138k on the 2.8 because they were sticking. Found it out when I replaced the head gaskets (just for fun) and found that the rods would go down but not back up again. If this is the problem, find some good used lifters because new ones are about 20-50 bucks a piece. I don't remember how many I replaced, but it was expensive. Now that I've got tons of V6 parts at my house, I'll never buy another lifter.

$20-$50 apiece? I paid $116 for the MTC-5 cam, and all 12 lifters...

dude autozone has the lifters for $5 each, you got screwed. As doward said you cam get a cam and lifter kit for a little over $100.

$20-50 for a lifter is nuts.. even the hydraulic rollers for my V8 are only 9.79 each.

I've got some lifters, rocker nuts, studs, even some rockers. You need some, PM me, they will be cheap

Limited time only though, scrap yard is coming soon.
