Ok I have a few questions on my Trans going out issues!

Car: 89 Firebird
Engine: 2.8 V6
Transmission: 700R4
Ok I have a few questions on my Trans going out issues!
I was asked today when looking inot a Tranny for my car which tail shaft I have under my car!
I was told that I have to swap the drive shaft if there are not from the same tail shaft as the one I have in her now(ughhhhhhh)
The guy said I would have to either find a FBody with the same rear as mine or swap the parts out if I pick to go with used and not being rebuilt.....
Just wondering what the heck rear do I most likely have as well? and is this a for real thing or just someone tring to sell me more parts for more money?

Engine: Pos 2.8 pulled and replaced with a 350 tpi motor converted to carb.
Transmission: 700r4, vette servo,shift kit, hayden 15"x8" trans cooler.
sounds like the dude is fulla****
