Car died, ideas why?
Car died, ideas why?
Hey guys, wasn't sure what to make of this. And am kind of ticked too! Snow finally starting to melt a bit, and weather was warm, so figured would take the car out for a spin and exercise the engine a bit. Things were going fine when I was on the highway, then car just went dead. I tried switching hazards on, and after a minute realized they weren't coming on. No electrical power!! Had a look at the battery contacts, and they seemed fine, so wasn't sure, do you think the alternator got fried, or possibly some other wires? Had to get it towed, and will find out on Monday whats the damage. Wanted some input though, if it is the alternator, or anything else, and if so, how much should I expect repair bills to be? thanks, and sorry for the long post, just had to vent, especially since I took the car out, and it felt so good after driving a tiny four cylinder car all winter!!

I seriously doubt that it was the alternator that went out. You would have still had some power to your lights and stuff. Have you checked the battery to see if there was any voltage at it. If you loose your fusible links, you loose power to all the circuits they protect. The fusible links would cost you less than $20.00 for all three plus your time replacing them. The alternatior will cost somewhat more depending on the brand, model and where you buy it plus your time installing it.
