Vibration troubles......HELP!!!!
Well, I got everything back together after my auto ->T5 swap and now the car has a huge vibration at idle. It sort of goes away when you give it gas and rpm go up to about 2k but its really bad otherwise. It does not make a difference when I push the clutch in. The vibration is just as bad.
The only thing I think it could be is the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate assembly is not torqued right. I torqued the flywheel bolts to 60 ft*lbs and the pressure plate bolts to about 35 ft*lbs.
Could this be it?
While installing the transmission, it would not go in all the way on its own. I had to put 2 bolts in and work it in the last 1/4 inch like that. Is that a problem? Did I ruin the pilot bushing by doing that?
Please help!

I did not know about the mark so I do not think I lined it up.
My car is a 87 but everything came out of an 84. How do I get a 'balanced flywheel'?

the 3.4 uses a neutral balance flywheel (aka internally balanced engine)... if you're using the '84 flywheel, which is a balanced flywheel (aka externally balanced engine), you've got a problem. A serious problem. If this is the case, don't start the car again till it's taken care of.. hopefully no damage has already been dealt

Oh crap. duh. Go Tech. Man don't start or drive that car again till you change the fly wheel. You now have an over balanced engine and those poor poor bearings.

what did the fly wheel come off of? the 84?? If so, the flywheel is the wrong style, and that is your vibration.
You can go to parts store and get flywheel. Or go to a slavage yard, and find one. S10,camaro/firebird 89-95 2.8/3.1/3.4 will work.

Geez.....ok, I wont start the car again. Do balanced flywheels have wieghts on them? If it does, what if I just knowcked the wieght off? I was talking to a mechanic and he said to check it for a weight first.

They have weights on them, however, they also have extra drilling done to remove weight from the opposite side. To fully neutral balance an external balance flywheel would take alot of work.

It may end up "heavier" that it was [ they will most likely add weight to balance it , not remove] but as long as it ends up neutral balanced it will be OK.
I helped a guy do it once him self. He hung the fly wheel from the rafters like a plumb bob and then welded and grinded here n there till it was as close to neutral as he could get it. He was working on a 0 budget so had to either blow up the motor or do it himself.
It did work out fine. It was a 87 monte carlo that we stuck a 4 speed into. He also built his own shifter from the hardware store.

Oh, well I didnt know something like that was possible. This is all new to me. Would a machine shop be able to neutral balance a flywheel? What does neutral balancing mean?
Haha, Gumby, just out of curiousity, how did your friend neutral balance a flywheel with a grinder? Not that Im thinking of doing it or anything.
Can anyone elaborate on what neutral balancing means and how I can do it to my flywheel?

if held by a string it should sit nice n level like the horizon.
Well like dude said above they add weight to the back of the flywheel and drill some holes to remove weight in places. He first started by removing the weights then adding or removing metal till it hung nice and level on a horizontal plain.
using washers and a grinder. Worked it till it would hang nice and level.
They use to do car tires like that. set on a plate with spring and you added weights around the rim till the bubble in the middle showed a neutral balance. But now a days they do a spin balance which is a tad better.
