questions about our great 2.8 and the honda motor powe wise
Ok Ok,
I know the ruels no other makes of cars and such, but I have to tell this.
I have a friend that has a 93 Honda Prelude S, thats been talking crud over my little slow 2.8 bird.
we stop light raced this eve. Given his car is the S not the Si it only has 135hp and 142tq.
My car blew it away (well really good) untill I hit 40ish and my car shifted ino 2nd gear and then he blew by and left me by a half a car, at that point I just let off the gas as I was going something like 55ish in the 45 zone.
Now my car is totaly stock of course, I know its not that big of a deal right its a little 4cly motor with next to no TQ! But it seemed great to me since he has a intake and a can exhaust and 5 speed and my car weights a lot more and is a RWD.
I just wanted to brag a little since its the first (sorta) kill since I got the car, in the other car I never worry about that stuff unles I race a corvette, or something out of my pace with it, but I had a great smile on my face with the slow ole bird this eve.
what would it take for the Bird to at least stay up with the Honda (not major motor mod's please) anything semi simple maybe?
Thanks
Donnie H.

since you said NO MAJOR MODS, that
a)elimnates 90% of what you can do to make more power
b) what's a major mod to you?
TomP tuneup, weight reduction.....
SInce he has no tq, that's why you're ******* him off the line. Since this car has no weight, that's why he's ******* you when that engine spins up into it's powerband, especially w/the stick.

as someone made a comment a few days ago on here...
small mods=small hp gain.
Tuneup
crank pully(s)
cat-back exhaust
aluminum drive shaft
Thats about it w/o major mods (taking engine apart), and start removing emission parts, or body parts to reduce weight.

Drive off a cliff maybe? Those honda's that people are so fond of flaming on are very lite. Like it or not. ESP if you come up against one that swaped in a more powerful motor from japan.

race one thats the same model year as your car or older if you're lucky. I raced a budy w/ a stock 5 speed prelude, car was a 1986 funny race (two slow cars standin side by side
) We ran dead even till second, and i pulled away from him after that, was actually funny to watch him disappear in the rearview, but that was a long time ago. Think about it like this, factory, his car has a much better hp to weight ratio, and unlike ur car he's making power in the high RPMs, so when ur going into second gear (like u stated) he's still pulling hard in first, and is flying by. Get some exhaust, get some headers, get a better intake, the aluminum driveshaft, take anything and everything out that you can ot save weight (make sure you don't make it to obvious though, or he'll make fun of you for it, then look for a 3.4L v6 and swap it in later. All the changes you've made will only make the 3.4L better also, plus a 3.4L will be starting w/ more hp than you have to boot.

If you can somehow fill his rear tires with concrete, that should guarantee a win for you!
But seriously... I think you need to do a rear gear swap. You were good until you hit second... I bet if you could swap in 3.73's, you'd hang a bit longer. What trans do you have?
Although, rear gears is a somewhat major mod, especially to the pocket. $200/gearset, $200/installation.
