died on the highway, fuel pump question
i was coming back up to school today and my car was bucking every once in a while. it would only do it once, the tach would bounce, then it would be fine for like 5 or 10 miles. i hit the on ramp for the next highway and it died. i thought maybe my fuel gauge died, so i got gas in it, nothing. just cranks. i wasnt able to work on it, so i had to have it towed to a shop(every mechanic's nightmare, having someone else work on their car). if it turns out to be a fuel pump, im gonna have an LT1 fuel pump put in, is there a certain one that will work or just any fuel pump out of an LT1 car?

I would suggest
Get a good NEW Carter unit to put in there. There's no need for a pump out of an Lt1. The Carter unit will provide full flow up to 60 psi (with more lph than you'll ever need). The unit fo the 2.8 part number is P74006. These pumps are bulletproof.

Oreily autoparts. I believe Carter is a division of Federal Mogul, great company, they've been around MANY years. NAPA might carry it too, part number may be diff. though. Just ask for a pump for the PROPER application, then ask them who it is made by.

does the LT1 fuel pump or any others that i can get from anywhere around have a higher output? i want to get an AFPR to increase my fuel pressure a bit. i dont want to have to wait for one to be ordered. whats the ratings on the V8 fuel pumps compared to the V6 pumps?

But the better pump is just that, better parts. It may be like 150-160psi cause of better parts but the regulator will not let anymore through then factory settings.
There is an exception. On the NOS system for the 6 It has a return line restrictor that is suppose to work. But I assume it only works as it plugs off the system about 50% which raises pressure so high it makes it bleed more past the regulator.
