Intermitten code "44"
Has anyone ever pulled up a code 44 on their SES? The book says that it's a lean exhaust. It happened to me this evening when I started my car to go to the store. I shut the car off to pull up the trouble code and when I restarted it , the light didn't come back on. I even took it for a decent cruise just to make sure that there wasn't a repeat of the SES light comiing on. I can't imagine what could have caused this code to pop up. Baffling to say the least.
Any suggestions?
BTW----------Everything sensor-wise has been replaced and it has run exceptionally well since I re-worked the motor.

I WAS one
I got news for you Club44 folks, my problem was a bad ECM. To test if this is your problem, start your car and just let it idle. If the ses light comes on with a 44, you either A: Have a bad O2 sensor B: Have a short to ground on your O2 sensor circut OR C: have a bad circut in your ECM. Pull your plugs out, are they black? If they're black, theres a good chance that your o2 voltage is staying at .4, this is causing your BLMs to steadily rise, until the ECM acknowledges the lean enrichment procedure (the 44 doesn't actually mean you are running "lean", it means the computer is in the lean "mode", this just means it thinks there is too much oxygen in your exhaust, so it wants to dump extra fuel in to balanc it out.

nope nope and nope. My plugs are fine, car runs fine, exhaust is fine. I just get the code like three times a month.

Same here.
My car ran fine after restarting the motor after I found out what trouble code was stored.
My O2 sensor is a month and a half old along with every other sensor that you can think of.
The only thing I have that would be considered in the "not-so-normal department". is a blocked off EGR valve. Even that is new, but was inadvertenly pushing exhaust into my plenum during idle. The car wouldn't idle for anything. I'm not even sure that the valve was bad, the tower that it sits on might have a crack in it causing the exhaust to carry over into the output side of the tower bypassing the valve totally. I'm just speculating on this theory, but nonetheless it's blocked off at the connector tube that attaches to the plenum. That was a month and a half ago, so I don't see how that could possibly throw a code after all that time.
