A little Help Please
O.K. I went to the wrong place for help, and maybe some of you fellow V-6ers can help me out... I'm doing a t-5 conversion on my 2.8. I've come into a couple of snaggs... First when I pulled the 700r4 shifter, it had 2 cables going to it. The first was the actual shift cable. The other goes to the steering column (neutral saftey for the ignition???). The first ? is how do I get rid of this cable? What do I do with the wiring for it? The next ? is how much work would it be to put a gauge cluster in with a tach? What all is involved? The last ? that I have for now is can I wire the Purple and Yellow wires from the 700R4 wiring harness to the Purple and Yellow wires of the neutral saftey switch on the Clutch pedal assy? I look forward to a couple of V-6ers or v-8ers that brouse this board to help me out of my couple of jams...
Hopefully the 87 project will do this soon....
By the way I have a 700R4 for sale....

2 wires to the 700r4 are your backup switch I belive.
2 cables, one is shifter, other should be the detent cable that goes to your Throttle body, not steering shaft.

Dale, the cable he is referring to that goes to the steering column is called the Park/Lock Control cable. In answer to his question about the wiring. Yes you can connect the purple and yellow wires from the old Park/Neutral switch to the Clutch Starter switch that is mounted on the clutch pedal assy

Dale... the shifter detent cable runs to the steering column. It's what prevents you from shifting out of park when the key is off. The throttle valve cable on the throttle body runs to the transmission, not the shifter.
As I recall, the detent cable housing can be unbolted from the steering column.. I think... can't say for sure, mine's still up there.. parts of it, anyway.

There are 3 cables involved with the 700R4 automatic transmission. The Park/Lock control cable (in my first post) goes from the shifter control assembly inside the car to the lock button on the steering column. The Shift Control Cable which goes from the shifter control assembly inside the car through the floorpan to the shift lever on the drivers side of the transmission case. The Throttle Valve (TV) Control cable which goes from the passenger side of the transmission case up to the throttle lever on the throttle body in the engine bay.

Yes, just look at the first picture I posted and it is a pretty straight forward affair. The cable runs under the carpet from the shifter to the steering column. But just in case so there is no confusion in removing it, here are the directions.
