Timing Chain Cover gasket leak?
Timing Chain Cover gasket leak?
Hi all!
I'm proud owner of 91RS (3.1)
Ever since I bought it (4yrs ago) it had slow engine oil leak.
Recently, mechanic pinpointed leak to timing chain cover gasket.
Engine is otherwise in great shape.
I would imagine this fix would cost a lot of $ due to a labour involved. Is there any alternative / quick fix, or even temporary solution?
Thanks!

Possible quick fixes include "stop leak" oil products (not reccomended if you like the motor) or cleaning the specific area of the leak really well with a solvent and sealing it with a smear of good silicone RTV. The RTV method only applies if it's the timing cover gasket and not the front oil seal for the crankshaft which is housed in the timing cover.

Question
WHy don't you just replace the gaskets and seals? It's super easy if you have the right puller. Heck, replace your timing chain while you're at it.
!
Thanks guys.
Part of the problem is that I recently moved to apartment, and I can't work on the car myself (part of building regulations). I have to take it to mechanic even for oil-changes.
I'm going to try silicone RTV tho.
Thanks!
