v8 tranny?

Would a T5 from a 305 bolt up to a 3.1, and maybe even hold up better than the v6 version?

Different bell housings. To get anything to last better you need to do a full rebuild.

Why can you bolt a v6 t5 up to a v8, but not a v8 t5 up to a v6? I have the v6 bellhousing.

Clutch disc. Can't fit a 10" clutch in a 9" space.

Or if you get the custom clutch (9 1/8" disc, 26 spline 1 1/8" input, IIRC), then you have to contend with input shaft length.. I'm not sure they match up. Then you have to contend with pilot diameter... not sure they match up either. Then contending with gear ratios.. they almost certainly don't match up (I could research that part but I'm feeling lazy)... I'd love to hear that it's an easy swap after confirming all of these though. I need a beefier tranny
