Were all the 3.1 people?....

I was reading through some threads and I noticed that there is a hell of allot of people in the V6 thread that have 2.8. Were all the 3.1 people? Is it just me or is there crap load of 2.8?

Theres times I feel alone with my 3.1.

All I want to know is "what ever happened to the 2.9 & the 3.0, did they get jipped?" (spoken with a readneck draw)

The reason

They only came with the 3.1 for 2 years, so you don't see as many. They had them in passenger FWD cars for many years though, good motor.

No wonder...

And I take it the 3.1 only came in 91-92 camaros right? So I take it this explains why I'l running into more of the 2.8 then the 3.1....no wonder! So is there a big difference between the two engines?

If half of the 90-92 RS and base Firebirds shipped with the 3.1 and half with the LO3, approximately 125k... but this is unlikely to be accurate... best I could say is between 80k and 170k.

Another 3.1 here. 198,800 on the orginal motor and transmission. Slow as hell, but most reliable car I've owned.

My old 91 rs has 296,xxx on th clock and dosent even smoke were as my iroc puffs 1/2 car length at start up. I know valve seals are bad but that just gives me an excuse to replace with a 350.

Dayum, and I thought I had a high mileage vehicle!

Mine puffs a little bit when I start it.. I let a friend drive it one time. He was doing good, but out of nowhere he decides to redline it coming off a light. Probably busted a valve seal.

Only reason I trusted him is because I sold him my old truck, and he drives it responsibly.

Thats what I'm talking about...

Whats up people. Nice to see that more and more of you guys are poping in, I thank you people for that. If you guys only knew how good it feels to see more 3.1's out there/here. A quick question for the ones with HIGH miles.....does your cars still run the same/strong?

For anyone with a 3.1 feel free in replying, I'm curious to see how many of use 3.1 people show up in this thread, later on this might be helpful towards any questions with people that have 3.1....

ME--------> 128,000 miles (wow, it seems like I have the least miles in here...)

Anyone else?????

Fast RS,

It's all original. Only smoke I get is a slight wiff at startup. The heads have never been removed from the car. I was told I should get a valve job, but I am afraid that I will brake head bolts due to them being on there so long. I even still get good gas mileage. About 24 MPG highway and 21 MPG city. Lack of low end power is driving me to replace it with a V8. The V6 has been reliable and fun to drive, but I really want that low end pull.

awesome, i plan on keeping my firebird for a very long time, i want to see how long this baby will last before major break down, not that im trying to beat my car up but it would sure be fun to see hella mileage on a car that runs great.. my uncle owns a 79 regal, *** knows how many miles that baby got, she runs like a beauty for old *** car. thats his beater, and when i say beater i mean beater, the thing got rust all over the place , half the time he leaves it unlocked, nobody really wants to steal a car that has 5 different color of rusts , i love driving that monster , 4.9 liter , gota love the loose steering wheel , its like driving a ship, and of course the squeeking dashboard
