4.3 3.1 the same ignition components?

I was down at the parts store and the guys down there were saying I could get a msd cap and rotor for a 4.3l 6cyl and put it on my 3.1cyl. Since they can't even find the right gasket for the thermostat I didn't beleive'em but was thinking it would be pretty friggin sweet since there isn't much out there for these motors anymore. They were also saying I could get a ford ignition coil, put spade connectors on the wires for my ignition and hook it right up and bolt it on and it would work the *****. Since Ford blows I didn't beleive that either and just ordered a GM coil but am still curious about a 4.3l ignition being able to go on the 3.1l.

I ended up buying a blue streak cap and rotor since they had that for my motor. Those any good anyone know? I don't trust this store at all so I'm going solely on what I know and read on these boards.

Depends onthe year of the 4.3L.

The cap & rotor for my 95 Blazer is about $35 for regular Autozone replacement parts. The cap has the cap-a-dapt style routing $25 and rotor is just overly priced at $10. That style is shared for 95 & standard (i guess) for 96 & up.

Check the part numbers for the 3.1 and 4.3 parts. If they are the same part numbers, you are good to go.

i really don't like the bluestreak. busted a rotor in half out of the 'blue'. anyways, msd p/n 8430 is a cap and rotor for about $25. assuming you have the electronic dist. for the mpfi engine, that cap and rotor will work.

I have what ever came stock for that motor as far as the ignition goes, cept for the cap, rotor, and wires. I was wondering also if msd makes a distributor for that motor or not. I would like to get one in a week or two then get the msd box.

nope, there are no aftermarket distributors available for us guys. and, the msd box won't really gain you anything especially if you don't have a big cam in the motor and all that good stuff. the one thing i do like about my 6a box is that it operates on as low as 8 volts. so, the other day when my alt went bad, and voltage dropped, and i didn't notice right away, the motor kept running. i couldn't get it to start later but it was getting enough juice to keep the motor running. i doubt the stock ignition would've stayed going.

Agreed; I saw more from "Just" an aftermarket high-voltage coil then I did when I added the MSD 6AL box to the car. In fact, my car actually took a bit longer to start when I put the 6AL box in. Granted it was just a split second longer, but it took some getting used to.

Either Mallory or MSD makes a Magneto distributir for the 60*V6, but it also has a $$$$ to match.

I just bought a cap for my 2.8 and this cap will work on all 2.8 camaros with fuel injection it will work on 3.1's and will also work on 80's and early 90's 4.3L's
Screw typing, look and see with your own eye *****.
You can see that the caps are the same so go out and buy a nice MSD 4.3L cap and rotor for your car.
Also there was a guy in the last week or 2 on here that put a 4.3L cap and rotor on his 2.8L.
There the same.
