Major problem (i hope not though)
ok guys i have a problem i need help with. im pulling and changing the BLOWN motor in my wifes 86 camaro tomorrow. i got a donor car that is an 88. they both are the 2.8 v6 my problem is the 88 is an auto and my wifes 86 is a 5 speed so i need to change the flywheel. but i did some checking on the Parts America site and found out the the part numbers are different for the 2 years. but when i scrolled down the list on both they sell aftermarkt flywheels and they are the same part numbers for both years. I need to know if the flywheel off of the 86 will work with the 88 engine and not throw off the balance or something. otherwise ill have to wait to do this swap till i get another flywheel.

I wouldn't go by what Parts America says. Call a Chevrolet dealership and ask them. I'm pretty sure that the 86 had a balanced flywheel. The flywheel from a dealership would be the best choice, no guessing

Precisely. 82-86 are externally balanced, 87+ are internally balanced. Gotta get that thing neutral balanced or grab a new flywheel for an 88 motor (autozone stocks them for about 90 bucks)

If it makes you feel better, the changes coincide with a move to a larger journal crank which has a tendancy to be far more durable than the old style...
