Coolant Temperature Sensor throwing a code

Okay, got a code 15 (coolant temp sensor) out of my ECM on my 1984 Camaro w/ the 2.8 2bbl motor. Here's the deal: the check engine light only came on when I put the pedal to the floor to pass someone. It did it on two separate occasions about two weeks apart. Does it sound normal that the sensor could be bad and only trip the light under heavy acceleration? Anyone ever have this happen before?

The sensor is cheap enough, so I'll probably just buy it and see what happens, but I just want to know if someone thinks that there's another problem from what I described.

Are you experiencing some other unnormal problems with the car?
