I just caught wind of this. I hear its around $3500 which isn't bad if you consider what a used iron block turbo car or engine would cost. $5-7000 easy for used parts.
TA performance is cool like that. If there is a need, they will cast / make it.

I did get wind of a few bad points. Watch out for used blocks.
I guess there is a couple floating around swap meets that were assembled wrong with bad machine work. sleeves stuck up past the deck n other crap.

That one that PAE has built is looking so good. Some good porting and tuning they got that street pump gas 350 well over 500hp. 455 guys are starting to sweat.
Once the aluminum heads and new intake are cast its gonna get scary for anyone but a Buick 350 owner. And their passengers.
Though I still know there is similar potential in the 60* block. The 3.8 Buick is cool but the 60* has more of a chance to be a RPM monster. The 2.8 as it is revs pretty darn fast, by the number it can spin 14,000 if the parts were there. Think how cool that 1st gear of the T5 would be if you spun to just 10k. You would be killing & murdering people by time you hit 3rd.
Why them imports can move. they spin up right now. rpmsxgears=fun, just like a motorcycle. Fast reving and gears can be more fun than brute force. It makes wining even more sweet. Though brute force has it place too.
If there becomes a demand the parts will come but we gotta get some of these turbo projects eating up cars at the track.

You'll prolly see 1000hp outta the stock 109 block soon. Attention to detail, quality components and meticulous assembly is what's needed for those motors(which is why I don't rebuild buicks )
Boost is addicting!!!!!

It's a nice piece but it's taken them FOREVER to get them into circulation.
They're cool and all but I'll stick with the 109 block. No need for any more power than what it can handle

Quick question and please don't take it the wrong way. Im just curious as to why buick and others came out with a turbo charged v6 rather than beefing up a v8? Was it for gas milage purposes or what? Once again, im not flaming, just curious.

if I were to take a guess these would be my suggestions
1. Not enough room in the engine bay
2. Engine would be guaranteed to have beat out the Vette (which is a no no by GM), instead of suprising everyone with just the V-6
3. maybe the idea of the other V-8 they had was such a let down that they wanted to try it on a different engine?
those are my only guesses and I had another buy forgot but will post if I remember

that is it. The Firebird was suppose to be the major competitor for the vette but GM did not and doesn't like anything competing with the vette.
Its a shame but we have missed out on allot of cool car to save face for the poor vette.

Wow. If we keep up this kind of talk, the guys running the 735" Merlin blocks might just as well pull them out and scrap them, and install 3-cylinder Geo Prism engines revved to 40,000 RPM.
Buick built the V-6 because Chevrolet was given the task of building all the corporate V-8 gas engines, and frankly, the BOC V-8s weren't "all that" anyway. Pontiac got stuck with inlines, and Olds built diesels. Then the late '80s and early '90s came around, and things just kept changing at GM. But Buick didn't get another V-8 to build. Chevrolet got more of the V-6s, and also resurrected the 134 inline 4 from the early '60s into a modern, efficient, low emission engine - somewhat like what Buick did to the mid-'60s 231 V-6 some years before.
Their powertrain group was all folded into working on the Northstar, and the rest is now just past history. If you want a GM V-8, it isn't likely to have a distributor at the front any time soon. However, some of that lives on, since much of the design of the LS-series engines incorporates what was best in all GM engines through the years. And the 231 has never been more in demand.

They also wanted to create a powerplant capable of passing emissions easily, getting very good gas mileage, and had a decent power to weight ratio. They couldn't use big blocks anymore and they prolly wouldn't have fit any way. The Grand Nationals look big but the engine bay with the v6 turbo in it is still kinda tight by the firewall where the dp goes. This engine was never supossed to do what people are doing to them. In fact it took a lot of cash and time for pontiac to R&D the swap into the firebird that sent the cost skyrocketing past $31,000. Today it'd prolly cost you around $42,000 to have GM make it again. The 80's Great engineering, Great Presidents, Horrible clothes and hair, but I'd still go back............................
