custom air intake for a 91 firebird V6 3.1L
I have a 91 Firebird V6 and I still have the stock air intake. I want to get an aftermarket air intake, but it doesnt seems they are around much. I found alot of them for 93-97 firebirds with 3.8L, and I wonder if they work on mine.
Another thing, if I custom make one by myself. What things I need for the job? and what about the air sensor that is located at the bottom of the stock air filter box? How would I set that up for the custom air filter??

there's a number of slightly different setups people are using. the simplest would probably to buy a k&n cone filter and run tubing from the TB to the filter, which should be in a corner of the engine bay or near the bottom.
the sensor is the IAC? or IAT?, something like that. it measures the temp of the air coming into the engine. the sensor doesn't have to be installed into the tubing of the new setup, as long as it's near the filter. you wouldn't want cold air to be coming into the engine, but the sensor be hanging right next to the engine block and telling the comp. that hot air is coming in.
not hard to install it into the intake tubing though. just drill a hole slightly smaller than the diameter of the sensor and screw it into the tubing

probably not your best bet since the engine bays are different I would imagine. If your hell bent on buying an aftermarket intake you can get them at www.thirdgenresource.com or www.fbodymotorsports.com. They aren't cheap though, like $150 and up where as making one would be like $20 from what I hear. I just took that can off, put the sensor under the front nose and then put the top back on so you have the filter sitting there open element...just make sure to seal the holes that are on the bottom plate that the can sits on. If it's light enough tonight I'll post some pics.
