372 miles/tank, my personal best so far

average city/freeway driving.

Can't wait to get the 3.4, fix exhaust manifold leak, install the roller rockers, and get the tranny rebuilt and filled with synthetic.

still need to get new msd 8.5 plug wires, and clean the air filter too.

then i'll see how my mileage does.

my best so far was 255, that being half highway and half city with 8 runs at the dragstrip....that probably didnt help

I've never understood the "xxx miles on a tank" thing. I mean... did you run out of gas? ...guesstimating on how much you put in when you filled up how much was left and did the math?

There is no way I'd trust my gas gauge past the red ~1/8th mark

Generally, this is tested by filling your tank, resetting trip odometer if available, running the tank to near empty, refilling, and making sure you had to put in at least 13 gallons... personally, I never run mine that dry for fear of burning up fuel pumps, but the same concept works for taking how much you put in to refill it and doing the math vs. the trip odometer.

Yea, Id have to say Im partial to doing the math. Its more accurate. Even though itll only give you average gas mileage, I still think its more accurate than guessing when your tank is completely empty.

yea, i should probably run it down to about 1/4 of a tank and do the math thing. Last time i did the math was about 120miles of freeway driving and i got almost 34 mpg

a lot of times though after topping it off i just reset the trip odometer and see how many miles i get before i get to the 1/8 mark.

I write the mileage down, get a full tank of gas, and then drive the car until I need gas again. Then I fill up again, and note the mileage again. Since I always get a full tank of gas, it should just depend on when the station's pump kicks off.

I started keeping track about 3 months ago, when I passed emissions:

Total mileage, gallons to fill, miles per tank, miles per gallon

267630.9 total, 11.800 gallons, start, -
267868.7 total, 12.060 gallons, 237.8 miles/tank, 19.72 mpg
268115.5 total, 11.325 gallons, 246.8 miles/tank, 21.79 mpg
268397.4 total, 12.500 gallons, 281.9 miles/tank, 22.56 mpg
268660.2 total, 11.949 gallons, 262.8 miles/tank, 21.99 mpg
268896.8 total, 12.376 gallons, 236.6 miles/tank, 19.12 mpg
269121.3 total, 11.281 gallons, 224.5 miles/tank, 19.90 mpg
269364.5 total, 11.568 gallons, 243.2 miles/tank, 21.02 mpg
269608.6 total, 11.910 gallons, 244.1 miles/tank, 20.50 mpg
269883.9 total, 12.861 gallons, 275.3 miles/tank, 21.41 mpg
270157.6 total, 12.156 gallons, 273.7 miles/tank, 22.52 mpg
270397.3 total, 11.831 gallons, 239.7 miles/tank, 20.26 mpg
270664.6 total, 11.842 gallons, 267.3 miles/tank, 22.57 mpg
270932.9 total, 12.741 gallons, 268.3 miles/tank, 21.06 mpg

All those average out to 254 miles per tank, 21.11 miles per gallon. Not too shabby... and I fill up about once a week- and I'm not light on the throttle, either. This is really the first time I've kept track of my mileage for so long... it's kinda fun (and that must mean I'm getting older)- I actually just punch it into my cell phone.. last one I saved was 270932912741 as "Gas14". It sure beats digging around for a pen and paper!

Oh yeah, and I use 89 octane.

372 miles/tank is amazing... pretty cool.
