Injector Question

Alright, yes, I'm asking an injector question.

While I had my engine apart few weeks ago, I noticed 3 of my injectors were leaking. So I installed a totally different set of same size. Now the engine has been missing, stalling, running hot etc.

So, now I have one bad set, and another half bad set of 17lb injectors. I am kinda SOL in a way. However... I have a set of ford 16lb, and ford 19lb injectors.

Would the 19's be to rich?
3.4 block
polished heads
1.6 rockers
stock cam
cat-back
LB8 Intake.

And I will be getting the headers soon as their ready. They said end of July

To Rich?
Stick leaky injectors back in?

would they be too rich? No.
When you install them, reset the ECM.
It will adjust the variables to compensate.

The ECM will only do this during closed-loop operation. At WOT you're open-loop and bigger injectors would be way too rich. I'd be willing to bet the stock injectors are rich at WOT - GM designs things on the safe side and for a lot of trouble-free miles...

Dale, have you tried using carb cleaner or something like that on the injectors? It's most likely a build-up of crud that's making them leak. It might be worth a try.

Use Thottle Body cleaner - carb cleaner will eat your O rings.

AHHH!!! A new member who knows his stuff! Run away!!!

but.. I must argue the 'safe side' thing as a generalization on GM products..
3.1 came with 15pph injectors. 305 TBI (LO3) came with 45pph injectors...
6x15=90, 2x45=90...
3.1 = 90pph, 5.0 = 90pph...
GM has some serious gaps in their 'safe side' logic at times

*sigh*

So either get the 17's cleaned, or stick the leakys back in

So even after I get headers, 19 is still to much?

Dale.. if you can afford headers, you can afford chip burning equipment. Time to look into doing your own chips for both power and the ability to use any reasonable injector with a little work. With a speed density system, you're going to have gaping holes all over your fuel and spark tables with a decent round of mods without some decent time spent datalogging and burning anyway.

I have read all the chip talk in the v6 section, went over to the prom board and read some of that. WAY over my head, I dont understand one lick of it.

Still havent checked to see if paskys ecm reader works. And if so, I dont know how to use it. I just got my laptop last week.

All I have is some simple bolt on stuff, my engine isnt that wack.

Worse case scenario, I'll spit you out a chip, with remapped fuel tables for whatever fuel injector you want to use... just PM me, alright?

I know Rich can swap in one of his injectors, if you send him one that doesn't flow "in spec" with the others; not sure if he fixes them though. I always got the spelling wrong too until I started typing it a million times- http://www.cruzinperformance.com !

Alright, this weekend I pulled the engine back apart.

I did have slight vac leak, so I backed the rockers off 1/8 turn.

While taking intake and fuel rail apart, some of the injectors were leaking at the top seal and spraying fuel on my intake So I wasnt getting all the fuel I should.

Then all the inejctors on the left side were leaking at the tip, so that didnt help.

I said f-it and installed the 19lbs with new seals. As for a drive around the block, and drive to work, its just what the DR ordered I missed having this car. Didnt stumble once, didnt try stalling, engine has ran cooler then any time since I put this 3.4 block in it. So here goes some For the 19lbs.

Doward, once you get some time, if you still feel like making a chip, let me know. I will ask for a few things besides re-done fuel curves.
