Can I use a 4 gauge wire straight from the alternator to the battery without affecting the 3 fusable links at the junction block?The 6 gauge wire from the alternator to the junction block is kinda bad.

i wouldn't but its possible, safe i wouldn't say so

Run it back to the junction block - IIRC, that is where the power for numerous other parts of the car derives from.

Do you have a stereo system in the car? That's usually the big reason for re-wiring like that.

But I definately would, but like Doward said, those fuseable links still need power. So get rid of one of the 6gauge (I thought it was 8 gauge?) sections; either the one between the alternator and junction block, or between the junction block and battery. Then string your new 4 gauge between the alt output & battery. That way you get the 4 gauge, but still supply the fuseable links with power.

If I Recall Correctly, those links are for the headlights, fuel pump, and engine fan. But it's been years (actually since I wrecked the car back in '96) since I've been in that spot, so don't quote me on those!

Yeah..that's what I wanted to do originally.Run me a 4 gauge wire from the alternator to the battery and leave the one from the battery going to the junction block to power the links.I went to Advance Auto to get the right length to do the job on running the wire and enough slack not as to put a bind on it.I'm going to put that loom wire cover over it to protect it from chaffing.I feel like it is a better connection like the older cars have.

Let me know how it works and if you notice any difference in how many volts you show. I was planing on doing my car the exact same way you are doing yours.
