Changing from a belt driven fan to electric?
I was thinking about changing from the belt driven fan (no clutch) to an electric (dual?) fan for my V6 car I am restoring. Anybody done this before? Opinions on this thought?

I've done it to every car I have ever owned that came with a standard belt driven fan.
1) your water pump shaft will last almost forever without the strain of a fan at the end of it
2 You have net HP and gross HP. In a motor's case, net HP is what the engine produces on its own, and gross HP is what the toal result of HP is after the drive belt assesories are added. NetHP is higher than gross HP. You will gain back some more of the net HP from not having the motor turn the fan and rob HP.
3) You will get better gas milage also
Three pro's, no cons.
Hayden has fan relays with a probe insert into the radiator fins to run the fan setup. Just needs its own hotwire off the battery.
-or- you can buy an aftermarket fan sensor that screws into the head and reads coolant temp- Jet makes one (Summit racing part # JET-60600)

Thanks for the info. I was going to go with the dual fan setup and go with the 3 switch mod.....I wanted to control the fans manually if neccessary. Beltway driving in the DC metro area during summer can be murder on your engine.

If you can nab the factory radiator shroud/fan mount/electric fan from an 85-up junkyard f-body, your swap will be much easier. Since the factory fan mounted so close to the radiator, the electric-fan-shroud really isn't a fan shroud! It'll really clean up your engine bay. Getting the factory stuff should be cheaper than buying an aftermarket fan, but it's up to you.

I converted from single to dual on the camaro. Radiator fit right in the dual setup.
I converted s10 from belt to electric. For the cost I spent on it, I wasnt to happy with outcome. But then, I spent 200 bux or more on it
