RPMs Gears and Mileage

RPMs Gears and Mileage

I wonder if you auto guys can keep the car from using OD

I have found in my stick. That in 4th gear at 2000-2300 RPMs I get the best vacuum -12 to -13. I run a vac gauge as a econ meter. You know how newer cars tell you the MPGs your getting with your throttle position. Same thing only not as fancy.

5th gear is almost useless as you would need to be flying to get good mileage / vacuum from it. I have not done the math yet but notice gas lasting allot longer by not using 5th anymore, unless I am doing 60-65 plus or over 3000rpm in 4th.

I just wonder if the few auto guys complaining about mileage could do the same thing. keep the car from using OD unless your as fast highway speeds.

As I assume its the same thing in an auto as a stick. OD at low speed / RPM is not saving any gas.

Course a vac gauge might be necessary to experiment.

Just though Id throw out the idea. Do what you will with it.
