Believe it or not, that is the Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) Sensor.

Just as Trickster said. Did you take the parts guy out and show him? They should be able to figure it out if they see it. There's also a really easy resistance test to see if it's good or not (although I don't recall the test right off the top of my head).

I think it is a dealer only item i remeber i had looked at AZ pepboys and napa and none of them had the part. You can search under a 92 olds cutlass supreme v6 3.1 sae sensor i dont know if it may show for that year but i know both sensors are the same.

I found the MAT at a local parts store. According to GMPartsDirect, the OE number is 25036751.

I just bought one at Autozone. They call it an Air Charge Temperature Sensor.

If you want to check it first. The resistance at 70 degrees F should be about 3400 ohms, 100 deg = 1800 ohms, 160 deg = 450. Mine was reading 380 ohms at 70!

Were you getting a code when it was reading that high? (curious because I've never seen one go bad on these cars)

I didn't check for codes. The SES light wasn't on either. I was chasing a cold start up problem and was checking all the sensors when I found it. I just swapped in a reman 2.8 long block and reused all the old sensors. I could have saved myself some headaches if I had replaced them all or tested them before reusing them.

My MAT sensor went. It threw a code and failed the resistance test.
