Service Engine light (sometimes)

The Service Engine Soon light on my 2.8 sometimes decides to turn on. I just got the car out of storage and ive put about 350 miles on it in the last 2 weeks.

The Service Engine light has come on about 5 times out of the 25 times that ive driven it.
One weird thing about it is...if i shut the car off and restart it, the light goes off.

I have noticed that the light has come on 3 times while going up a hill behind a slow car (about 30mph).

Has this type of thing happened to anyone else?

What are the possible problems?

Have you had the code read? I had a problem w/ the EGR system a while ago that acted the same as yours.

The codes can be pulled from the car with a simple paper clip. In the picture below you see the ALDL connector which is under the dash near the driver's right knee. If you turn the car to the on position (don't start it though) and then use a paper clip to connect the two right-most terminals in the top row, the SES light will start flashing. The first code it will give you is 12. This is to tell you that the light is working. You will see flash-pause-flash-flash three times and then other codes that are stored in the ECM. For instance if there is only one code stored and it is code 34 you will see flash-flash-flash-pause-flash-flash-flash-flash three times, and then it will start from the beginning with code 12. When you pull the code, tell us what it is so we can figure out the problem.

My dad has some sort of code reader that plugs into the port. we plugged it in and turned the key on...no codes.

Well, either there is a problem with the code reader (probable) or there's a problem with the SES light/ECM.
