Super-curious...

Just wondering if you guys with the idiot light dashboards (just speedometer and fuel level) have installed tachometers.

And if not, why not??? That was the 1st thing I did to my car, way before the Dynomax exhuast!

(Obviously this doesn't apply to full gauge panel guys, unless you added your own tach )

I swapped out for a gauge panel, that I bought off Ebay. It has a v8 tach and oil pressure gauge. But I have a slushbox so I really don't have to worry about rpm anyway. I did it more to know that I do have some oil pressure and what the voltage and water temp is. By the time a idiot light comes on its too late.

Funny thing...I was sitting here catching up on the boards and thought about the tach that's been sitting in my closet for about a year waiting to get installed. Just pulled it and everything I needed to install it out and was getting ready to click offline and put it in. So the answer is not yet because it's sitting here next to me.

That's those Canadian cars! MPH and KM/H. Is your odometer miles or kilometers?

Just FYI: The dual needle speedometers are in 1982 through 1984 Camaros, Canadian or not. The single needle design started in 1985.

Yep. I've got a 84 gauge cluster. That speedo is disgusting.... I swapped my 86 speedo into the cluster. keeping the odometer was nice anyway.

The tach was one of the first things I did. I'll have to take a pic of that one day.

Hey guys, merry Xmas (altho a bit late) and happy new years to you too... I'm on vacation all week (Hell Yeah I needed this!!) and I'm staying as far away from a computer a possible lately.

Glad to hear a lot of you added tachs (yes swapping to a full gauge cluster counts!!)- and welcome to the "tach crew", RedTtop5spd!

Installing a tach was also one of the first things I did... after the "initial car cleanup" and new hatch struts and the stereo. Can you believe I put a tach in the car before I ever changed a spark plug? Kinda backwards, but O well...

I have a full gauge cluster in the basement but I'm a sucker for the "added-on gauges look"... my tach is hanging from just underneath my dash pad, and blocks the driver's side A/C vent. Looks clean, but it was hard to see if I was racing and had my left hand centered on the steering wheel. I've got a mechanical oil pressure and mechanical water temp gauge (made by Summit Racing, surprise!) up on an a-pillar dual pod that I bought back in '96 and attached to the a-pillar w/panhead sheetmetal screws painted black.

"In the plans" is to change over to all Autometer gauges... in fact I noticed today that my tach's dial is sun-bleached; it's been in the car since summer of '94!

wth? does one point to miles and one to kilometers or something? weird..

heh my '87 v6 only goes up to 140, and I have taken it way past that. it's fun, see, because I can say my car is so fast that i pegged it, and people that are not quite in-the-know will think that's saying something.

I'd like to do aftermarket gauges in the stock positions but I can't think of a way to do it...

Do a search on the V6 forum for custom gauges. Someone, although I don't remember who, did custom gauges in stock position.

I added a 2 5/8" tach on the a-pillar of my 83 along with three mechanical guages to replace the idiot lights.

I didn't add a tach on the 85 and the 86 has a tach from the factory.
