3.4 cam

Hi,
Looking for cam for 3.4 with headers and mild port work on the heads and intake for a DAILY DRIVER camaro with automatic and stock computer. People seem to like the crane 2020/2030, but I wanted some more opinions. I think the 2020 is almost the same as the stock one. (?). I don't want to upset the computer, but of course I want more power.

Doward loves his Melling mtc-5, and it is quite cheap too.

MTC-5 definetly!

it's a 204/214 @ .050" lift, 422/444 lift with 1.5 rockers!

Agreed, I have virtually the same cam, Crower 03015. One step up from that is what I'd choose though, somthing with a tad more duration (assuming I did it all over again). Oh yeah, these cams work great with nitrous....

I am not sure if you're interested in a used cam but I have a solid flat tappet Crane cam I will be selling soon. 460/480 lift w/ 1.5 ratios and 226/236 duration. Solid cams generate more power than hydraulics. I sprayed the engine w/ a 150 shot while I was driving the car.

The Crane Cam 2030 is the same cam as in the 3.4 ya now got
The offered Mellings cam specs are nearly identical to the factory 3.4 cam specs...
3.4 cam specs are 204/216 @ .050" lift & (I/E) of .427" & .454".
Crane Cam designed the 3.4 cam for GM.
My answers from the GM Perforance Parts book.
ME?
I'd say keep the current cam, add roller tip 1.52 rockers or same idea in 1.6 rockers for more "Ommph" & lower cost.
IT SEEMS THAT most emission legal cams offered for the 2.8/3.1/3.4 are emisson legal offerings based upon the GM cam designed by Crane.
GM did/paid for emission testing, everyone else copied those specs. It is any easy engineering decision to use a tried & true working answer & copy it, place your name on the package.
NOW THAT LAST PART ANSWER is my assumed economic reply for capitalism conquest in the marketplace!
See my latest reply in the "3.4 Crate engine" thread for more details.
