Carberater mods?

I was just wondering if anybody out there has done any mods for the 2.8 with a carberater. All I've seen are mods for the fuel injection systems. I'm sure they're out there but I havn't seen any. Just want some ideas. Thanks.

First mod would be to get a 3.4, edelbrock intake, and a 4bbl 390cfm on top! Seriously!

Will a 3.4 intake fit on top of a 2.8 or did you mean I need an engine swap? The olny intakes that I can find are for a 2.8 and you have to buy the top and bottom seperately. As far as carbs I found olny 2 holleys that are 390cfm. About how much more power would this give me. Thanks.

If you were to replace the varajet with a mechanical holley, you would have to basically throw out your ECM?

HELLO FINLAND!!!!
being over there
all I can suggest is
Rebuild your distributor
Rebuild your current carb
YOU WILL PROBABLY FIND THAT
teh PRIMARY SHFT IS WOBBLY! due to excess uasge & age & play.
This screws up your carb performance.
After rebuilding he carb & distributor, your performance should be lots better.
Cost is much more minimal.
OTHER OPTION MAY BE TO
Make a carb spaceer.
By raising the carb off current factory intake manifold, you will be giving the carb a bit more "ommph" by being able to "ram more air" into the air flow stream.
How do you do that over there?
Myself having a 2 barrel carb on my 1985 Blazer, I was gonna use an additional carb base, doubled up.
YET the hold up is, the bolts used to attach carb to manifold base. I have yet to find longer metric bolts. You over there, maybe a walk arond the corner!
Rest of my ideas should get ya much more "ommph" for low cost, mucho labor.
BUT in end, the edelbrock manifold base is identical to the factory intake manifold item, except in carb base height (it's raised by a bit, maybe 1/2" more).
Is the edlebrock stuff "worth it" along wiht cost of Holley carb?
Intake set up is like $250 (both pieces) & carb is like $400-600 item.
Do the math.
While going to play under hood, add a new timing chain and also upgrade ignition set up. You'll be most pleased in long run. See my attached pic for those clues (coil & plug wires)
Swap to a 3.4 long block?
Over in Finland, I doubt that is an easy mission!
Attached pic is my carb set up on my 1985 Blazer. It's nearly identical to yours except I have a federal version, non-electric carb & distributor. My distb is vacuum advanced and carb is without electrics. Yes that is a 3.4 mill under there!
OH OTHER BEST SCORE IS TO UPGRADE TO THE 1985-1992 MPFI HEADS which have larger valves than the current carb head set up.
NOW THOSE TIPS WORTH TAKING TO YOUR MECHANIC FOR HELP!!
Keep warm, snuggle up to a Nordic Babe Blonde!
Have some Vokda for me, too!

Don't have a babe at the moment and I drank the last of the vodka on friday

I just ordered parts from summit for the distributor.(Cap, rotor, wires, plugs) I will also check out the carb and might rebuild it. I only fear that once I "rebuild" it, it 's not gonna work at all.

I've never rebuilt a carb form a car. Only simple 2-stroke engine carbs, without any electronics and crap like that.

Also looking for an MPFI engine. Might just swap the heads or maybe the whole damn engine. Better block, bigger mains and oiling system, and the MPFI system is probably better than the varajet. Arguments here?

Yeah
The MPFI block HAS NO MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP ATTACHMENT POINT.
That said, ya can try & drill the block to your hearts content but....
The carb works fine when rebuilt by a knowledgable person.
The primary shaft bushings need be replaced, too.
The carb electronics are nearly "foolproof" PROVIDED it wasn't dumped on by previous owners.
Seek help on the carb from a very good source. OR perhaps farm out the carb work or?
Again you're overseas, that's along way from good help for some simple parts of this project.
The heads are best score of the MPFI block, too.

IN END it may be wisest to UPGRADE to a V8 engine, as it's a simple insert into a carb'd V6 F Body ride. For this suggestion, it is best to have a ride with no electronics (MPFI) under the hood.
Your point of engine longevity of an aged carb'd V6 mill is a valid point!
You're overseas, the Nordic Babes are lengendary even here in SoCal and your Vodka tastes GREAT!
Keep at it for your best results under your hood!
Oh can you simply add an electric fuel pump under the ride if ya upgrade to a MPFI block?
More engineering! I've had to do this by inserting a 3.4 block under my 1985 Blazer hood. The 3.4 blocks do not have a mechanical fuel pump attachment point.
