guys i need your help again....

Hi all, happy new year and all that. my tranny mount bush still needs doing and i want to fit the poly one from summit but it wont fit my car without me changing the cross member for the one from an auto car. problem is there arent many pontiac scrap yards in the uk so im having trouble getting one. i heard on here someware that they are not expencive to buy from gm around $11 (corect me if im wrong on that one) also Tom p said its best to go for the earler one as you can bolt the bush direct to the crossmember, so heres the question, Is there anyone willing to find me one and send it over to the uk for me , id be more than willing to pay you for your time, i can pay for the parts (and what ever you want for your time) via paypal or bank transfer or whatever.
my car is getting really hard to drive smoothly and its a pain as its my daily driver and its caused a small exhaust blow.
let me know if any of you can help.
Thanks in advance.

Sure, I can go to a boneyard and grab you one. Transmission crossmembers go for $20-25 US, here.

Ya know, for all the time I always say "get the earlier crossmember"... I wonder...

Maybe you can just fab up that secondary trans mount with a piece of steel. You could bolt the flat piece of steel onto your current crossmember where your current trans mount is. Then you'd just:

1. Install the new GM rubber (or Energy Suspension polyurethane) mount onto the transmission

2. Mark where the center bolt of the new mount hits your piece of steel

3. Drill that hole out

4. Slide the center bolt thru the hole and put the nut on it

You wouldn't even need much in the way of equipment; just a hacksaw and a drill. I'd even bet that 1/8th inch thick plate would be strong enough. In fact, you could make it stronger by clamping it in a vise, and using a hammer to curl up the edges a bit - almost turning it into a [ shape.

Doward, if you could do that id would be eternaly gratefull to you,

Tom thanks for the reply and id agree with you but without me having both x members to look at and messure up id be worried about the final mounting hight of the tranny as iv heard of people getting weird vibrations if they mess with the hight of the box as the drive shaft dosnt like running ad funnny angles,

so i think for now i will go with just a bolt in job , its funny that i can get the right mount bush over here for £90 ukp i think thats about $170 but its cheaper to buy the other x member and a poly bush and that should last years longer than the original one.

anyway Doward if you could do that and find out how much to ship to the uk il send you the money whenever you want it.

many thanks
Nick
