I get about 15mpg in the city, and 20 highway... if I'm lucky
REBUILT MOTOR, new wires, new coil, new plugs, new EGR, new air filter, new oil/filter, new fuel filter, new distributor cap, and a brand new computer...
I cannot think of why I'm not getting anywhere close to the suggested MPG of this vehicle....
I cruise on the highway at 85ish at about 2300-2500 rpm.... seems mighty low... in fact, my mileage almost doesn't change from 2000-2800rpm... 70mph to 100mph.... very strange to me.

I wonder if my catylitic convertor could cause this?
what about people who take apart their intakes and clean the carbon out, does that make a huge difference?
I just calculated my mpg on the highway as being 16mpg yesterday.... that's absurd!

Hmmm...many people on this board say their mileage is down big time to what they should be getting, including me.I get about 210 miles per tank...Pretty Horrible....I gave up looking for the problem.A clogged cat will cause lose of power and economy.Check it out.I replaced my entire exhaust with Dynomax and Magnaflow high flow cat.Yet no increase in MPG.

I was just thinking... if the intake was clogged with carbon, wouldn't you simply lose power, but get better mpg, since you can't burn as much fuel? or are you just going to be putting more unburnt fuel into the exhaust?

by clog, I mean restrict. not completely blocking but lessening the overall available air to the engine... wouldn't that actually lower power output, and also gas input?

I thought gas was controlled by how open your throttle body is, not by the actual amount of air coming in. If that's the case then that'll just dump too much gas into the intake unless there's something I don't know which I'm sure there is all kinds I don't know.
