new gauge, normal temp?

I just installed a new mechanical (temp) gauge. And it stays at a steady 180, sometimes dropping to 160. Is this normal? I know the stock is supposed to be 220.

Also what kind of drawbacks are to disconnecting the CTS. Will my fans still go on? I havent got any idiot light yet.

Thanks guys -

a stock t-stat is 195. dont disconnect your CTS. when you say it stays at 180, do you mean even when its cold or does it seem to heat up properly? 180 while driving is a normal temp. but it should go up higher than that and then drop down when the fans kick on.

yah stays at 180-ish fully warmed up and driving.

Except one time, I was a stop light then it climb to 230. But I rev-up a bit and boom back to 190. Very quick. Fans?
