Tube On Passenger Side Valve Cover

When I recently installed my valve covers (edelbrock), I removed and did not put back a small tube that is running from the air intake tube to the gromet on the valve cover. I just capped it off. The car is not running well exactly. My question is what kind of effect would that little tube have on a stock motor? Is it some kind of vacuum? Is it important on a stock engine?

I belive its some sort of breather or vapor tube.

I've never plugged mine. But at one time I did have the tube cut short and a mini breather/filter on it.
