Plug and wire recommendations...

Hey all...I'm pretty new to this board and Camaros in general. My girlfriend's dad just brought down her 88 - 2.8l she had when she was a kid, so I'm doing a tune-up on it. I've found TomP's tune-up which is and excellent checklist, however, I'm looking for spark plug and wire recommendations. I've done a search and haven't found any for the V6. There are a lot of plug recommendations for a whole bunch of different headers, but this girl is all stock.

What brand/make/model of spark plug and plug wires do y'all recommend for a stock 2.8l??

I would also add to TomP's tune-up checklist to check/replace the thermostat. That was one of the first things I had to do to this guy. A $10 part could save you a whole lotta pain.

ACCEL MAKES THE BEST STUFF
I use Bosch Platinum plugs (for a 3.4 cause that's what I got under there).

from everything I've read the ac delco copper plugs are the best plugs to run. I got Bosch wires just cause they were all I could get my hands on quickly.

I ran Splitfire SF2C's for years until I got an MSD box; my MSD box chews the hell outta the center electrodes. The purpose of Splitfires was to expose more of the spark to the air/fuel mix, NOT to split the spark like 99% of the world thought! Splitfires acted like a cut plug (racing), but cut plugs wear out too fast.

Now I run AC plugs (R42TS) but the center electrodes still wear out- just not as fast as the Splitfires did.

I can say, tho, to avoid Accel u-grooves. Know the terminal of the spark plug that the plug wire clips to? Well Accel brags that their terminals are brass. Those brass terminals unscrew, get loose, and cause a misfire. I thought I got a bum set until I went to the store, opened some boxes, and saw that ALL the terminals were loose! Things might have changed; that was about 9-10 years ago, but they're not really worth the headache.

Other than that, plugs are plugs, there's really no miracle spark plug out there. Change 'em once a year, gap to spec, and you should be OK. I could never own a new car with those "100,000 mile platinum plugs" b/c I'd be changing those plugs out every year.

As far as spark plug wires, whatever you want- as long as it's not a cheap $15 set. Cheap sets are made cheaply, so they wear out fast, leak spark, etc. To check for spark leak, at night, pull over where there's no streetlights and open the hood- you'll see blue sparks jumping out of the wires.

If you buy a "universal" spark plug set, you cut those wires to the length you want and crimp the distributor ends on. I use universal sets b/c I route my spark plug wires over the valve covers instead of the hard-to-reach factory routing.

Find specs on the Accel wires at http://www.mrgasket.com . Any aftermarket set of wires should do ya right. I wouldn't go higher than 8.5 or 8.8 mm if you've got a stock ignition. I think some guys run the THICK Taylor 10.5's, but if you're stock, it's just a waste of coin.

Try not to get grease or oil on the wires when you install them, wash your hands first. Grease/oil can get into the wire's insulation and cause spark leak.

I'm suprised MSD hasn't beenmentione dyet (even though I have accel wores again )

I have bosch wires on teh blazer along w/the =$s and netted some good highway milage improvement. And yes, I've heard on other boardsas well that if you run an ignition box, avoid teh platinum plugs.
