Post your latest gas mileage results!

Ever since my torque converter started properly 'locking' up.. I've been getting killer gas mileage in my opinion.

the first day my TCC was activated... I got 29.5 MPG on a 100 mile trip, at a fairly constant 85mph (unless I knew a cop was coming!) -- g0d bless the rx65.

Just today, I checked it again... and I made that same trip at an average of 90... peaking at 100, and for a few minutes I drove at 75mph... this time I got 30mpg! And I'm due for an oil change...

Just wondering what kind of mileage are you guys getting now that the temperatures are warming back up!

edit: before the TCC repair, I got 15mpg max on the highway.

I get about 15-18. Blame it on the crappy Calif oxygenated fuels and 91octane max.
we have 87,89, and 91.
How about gas prices right now?
I just filled up today and it was $2.71 per gallon for 91 oct. *87 looks to be around $2.50 average per gallon in So Calif.

I'm heading out to Parker, AZ next week with my truck and am curious how much better mileage I will get coming home with Arizona fuel

my torque converter had never locked up, the entire time I had driven my car... I just thought that 15mpg was the normal mileage..

I would be at 2500-3000rpm on the highway... but now that the TCC locks up, I'm at 2000 even at 80mph....

my steering column wiring, or something under the dash was screwed up. when I had my steering column replaced, it came with a new wiring harness for the column, and somehow that fixed my TCC AND my cruise control at the same time... pretty good improvement...

so for $200 I got a new turn signal mechanism (not the actual switch--just the part that interfaces with the column, and also allows me to engage the brights)... I also got a junkyard column installed, plus the cruise control and TCC to work... pretty good, huh?

that $200 investment has by accident already saved me $200 in the few months that I've had my car back...

I go through 3-4 tanks a week. and I drive back and forth from Waco to Austin every week, a 105 mile drive... I only use 3.5 gallons of gas to drive there... so 7 gallons there and back... at 80+mph of course!

if my tank is 12 gallons, I have a 360 mile range at 80mph.
if my tank is 14 gallons, I have a 420 mile range at 80mph.

I smell gas real bad too... because I have a horrible vacuum leak...

I was messing with my hoses one day, and I caused a very bad leak, and my mileage dropped back down to 20mpg or so...

when I 'fixed' it... (its still only reading like 15 on the mityvac)... my mileage went back up to 30.

I bet if I fixed my vacuum leak completely, changed the oil, got rid of my exhaust leak, and other small tune up procedures... I could get 35 mpg...

also if I drove 40 mph (that's optimum driving effenciency,) I could probably get much, much more mileage... but I'll never drive that slow... never!

My mileage has dropped slightly since my 33.6 bragging some months ago. the exhaust leak is louder, winter fuel, etc.

I'm heading back to Ft bliss Monday and from there to Iraq. When I get back I'll be doing some work on it. Headers, 3.4, newer tranny, roller rockers, so on and so on.

If I remember right though, you have some small mods done, right?

I use about a tank a week doing two 40 minute drives and the rest of it short trips. I'm averaging 29 miles per gallon.

I haven't had the Camaro out much - but with the new WB02, I'll be getting some decent cruise mileage - ESPECIALLY with the .63 Overdrive V8 WC T5

Wheras 70mph used to be around 2400-2500rpm, now it'll be around 2000 rpm. A solid 500rpm drop in cruise rpm will be nice on the free way

My car gets pretty trashy milage...both from my driving style and the things wrong with the car. I call it "sporty" driving...I am always the first person off the line at red lights and I just like the sound of a floored engine. Once I fix my exhaust manifold as well as complete some other engine repair, I expect that to go up a bit...right now I drive about 300+ km on a tank

i think this is right

100km=63 miles

63miles*1.63=100km

110mph=180kmph (look at your speedo)
110*1.63=180kmph

227miles*1.63 =370 kms

504km/1.63 = 309 miles

It mostly my driving habits also. My foot is always into this thing even with 3.23's on the highway. If I do cruise out somewhere for a distance (Like from Orange Co. to Calif Speedway- about 40 miles each way) I will go through at least a half a tank of fuel. But I am also doing at times 125+. There are some wide open stretches there on early weekend mornings with no cars around.

It 'probably' gets more like about 20-22 when the wife and daughter are in the car with me, but I am still doing about 80. 90% of the miles on this car are my wife running around town at speeds under 40mph.

I'm getting about 7.5km/L (~17.5mi/gal) consistently doing 90-95% city driving and laying on the gas pretty hard.

Gas right now, here, is peaking at CAD$1/L (~USD$3.12/gal) for regular.

Lets see then..

I've done 226kph in the Camaro. (15-20 mpg)
231.5kph in the truck (8-12mpg)
248 kph on a bike (? mpg)
270kph in the Vette (3-5 mpg, @ $5 per gallon-this car is very expensive to drive)

I like the Canadian system, It sounds much more impressive

Yeah, but when it's 80 degrees in the US, it only 26.5 degrees in Canada. It's unbearably cold.

as far as I know... the only way gas mileage information is obtained is through vacuum sensor, and a computer...

How about a couple of flow meters (feed and return) and an odometer?

The ECM calculates how much fuel flow based upon throttle position, RPM, Vacuum, the injector constants, and speed. It also counts how much time you spend at each "INSTANT MPG" which it calculates about 6 times/second.

This is in my car BTW.

And here's a pic of INSTANT MPG...kinda blurry, and I was about 1/2 down on the throttle.

gotcha...

its weird how some cars run so hot...

most cars don't ever get over 200F but if I let my bird sit for about 10 minutes, it easily hits the 230 fan switch

Yah, that was after I had let mine sit for 15 minutes on a 100 degree day.

hey, how hard is it to make that cable? is it just straight wires from the ALDL port, to the serial port on a pc/laptop? (obviously you'd have to wire correctly...) but are there any capacitors, resistors, etc, needed to make this cable?

then you just run winALDL on your pc, and bam!? you have all that info?

can you get all the sensor readings that you can get from a good scantool? it would rock to hook up a laptop and troubleshoot while driving.

It's real easy to build the cable. It does help with diagnosing, keeping your car running good, and getting good gas mileage.

so you can access the same things as a scantool can?

does it have "suggested" values for sensors, or will I have to find them on the net?

Probally, I got it to work on a 91 Blazer. You just go through the ECMs till the 25 or whatever number up top starts blinking green, if it blinks red its not the right one.

I noticed my idle was lower with it plugged in though, and made my friends car stall out cause the Idle dropped a lot

You can save the data and then open it in excel. I've done it a few times. Just remember what all you were doing at various times with the saved data and plot values against time so you know what's going on when you do different things.

To open in Excel, open Excel and find the file you want to open. It'll be a text file, so you may need to click on the "files of type" and select text file or all files. Then just click next on all the message boxes that come up. That should get it open in Excel.

so far I have only went through two tanks of gas one was 31.4mpg with about 60%hwy
the other was around 32.6mpg with about the sme hwy
but that was also with the carb float set too high and the timing a little far advances so it knocked like a pig plus I kept forgetting to shift into 5th... stupid me I know

but once I get the carb worked out as well as the timing and a few other things I'm hoping for the 35's or so avg, but this was also on that stupid winterized fuel stuff
but then again I drive a honda

How about gas prices right now?
I just filled up today and it was $2.71 per gallon for 91 oct. *87 looks to be around $2.50 average per gallon in So Calif.

I'm heading out to Parker, AZ next week with my truck and am curious how much better mileage I will get coming home with Arizona fuel
why are you running premium fuel?

if your car is still mostly stock and the timing still in the same possition as it came stock whats the point?
