Getting shocked when i touch plug wires

when i went to see if all the plug wires were tight on the cap, i got a fairly nice shock out of it, i'm guessing thats not normal, these are from brand new wires as well

put your tounge down there and make sure your aren't mistaken.

but no best thing I woudl say is start the car at night leave your lights off and see if you can see arching down there

if so you might be able to see if it is from the wires or from the rotor. if nothing else put some gloves on and take a piece of metal and hold it to your car and the other end of the piece hold near the plug wires, it should better help you find it.

though I also wouldn't be shocked if you might have made one a little little lose or just moved it the right way when messing with them

I did that once on my camaro when adjusting the timing and being an idiot I grabbed from the top of the dizzy and shocked the hell out of my hand

Don't touch them anymore; problem solved.

I'd only touch the cap terminals when the motor was off. I got a hell of a shock too, once, spinning the dist with a motor that wouldn't start. Threw me backwards off the car and I blanked out for a few. Scared the hell outta me when I got back up.

BTW, that's why they say when you're near ignition stuff, always lean against the car with the side of your body, and keep one arm behind you. The theory is that if you were to get shocked, the juice wouldn't go thru one arm, thru your heart, and out the other arm to the fender. Yikes. That's why I try not to touch the secondary ignition side at all when the car's running!

Oh; you could also try this; turn the car off, remove each wire one at a time from the dist cap. Look at the cap terminal and look inside the boot; if you see a buildup of corrosion, it wasn't seated fully.

That's a cool suggestion (about the piece of grounded metal), rx7speed!

I've been here too, that sucked.

Either the new set of wires is bad or tehy weren't seated all the way. That's why you got shocked.

I know a guy that was trying to adjust is timing one time and there was a bad boot on the dist. When he reached over and grabbed it, the shock went through his arm and apparently the best place to ground to the body was through the zipper in his pants. Ever seen a hot dog explode in the micro???

And your happy thought for the day...no matter how bad you think your day is, imagine 60K volts through your *****. You'll feel better.
