oil leaks???
My 2.8 has a pretty nasty oil leak. You park it, and you have a slight puddle after a short while. Basically you can empty out a couple quarts between 3,000 mile oil changes
My car has also "marked" it's territory in the parking structure
I read that the distributor o ring is known for going bad. Also, the cam plate as well (i think that is what it was). I was wondering what the cam plate is/where it is located (back/front of engine?) My leak seems to be coming from....the back.... I know the distributor is in the back.....and does not look like fun to pull!
Any hints/pictures/advice would be really appreciated!

good chance its both. the distributor o-ring is an easy fix. pull the distributor, replace the ring, also get a chevy small block distributor gasket for extra insurance.
the rear cam seal is harder. it requires the trans and flywheel/flexplate to be removed. its on the back side of the engine toward the top of the block. its a dealer-only part. about $13.00 if i remember correctly.

YOu could have a traveling oil leak, too.
Try the oil filter housing up at oil filter
Try solving the teh distb oring deal first, tho.
Add a small block chevy distributor gasket, before ya sink back in the MPFI distb.
Extra insurance at $1.
While distb out seek out my past thread abotu rebuilding the distributors, it's pretty easy. Not too costly either.
How to access
Go to SEARS get 15mm SWIVEL HEAD SOCKET & Bag of extension. Have at it
Rear main seal & rear cam seal are accessed ONLY BY removing tranny & flywheel/Torque convertor.
BOTH ARE NECESSARY when doing a tranny job! Both those seals at GM dealers, too. Because those seals can leak, too!

Wow, thanks for the info guys. Lots of good info here! That distributor one sounds okay, but I'll leave the cam one.....till the tranny has to be rebuilt!
Thanks!
