misfire??....

hey, ive gotta 91 firebird v6 and its got like 132 on the clock so im sure its allowed to do this. but...i know sometimes when i step on the gas lightly it kinda heasitates at 1st. tonight when i got home, i reved it to a little over 1 and a half and it would hold it...go down a little...go to where it was.....stay...go back down. i also have a tapping lifter and every now and then it smells like gas! so im sure it could be ne thing. the cap and wires look old. (putting it all on monday..i'll keep ya posted!) so...could the gas smell and the wierd hesitation be from a leakin injector or something? or could the hesitation be from the old wires and all. (gas smell im sure is a old vapor hose thats kinda cracked, so..im mainly worried about the hesitation) thanx again

Don't laugh at this but change your gas cap!
You're probably on right trail with the tune up.

yeah...ive pretty much narrowed it down to the wires and all. im putting it all on, along with new plugs (had autolite, im switching to ac delco, witch is what the cap rotor and wires are) the cap i thought about but..it passed the test at the inspection station. u know where they hook the cap up 2 something? but...i'll try it i guess

get an analog multi meter and test the tps. move the lever slowly and if you see the needle of the meter dip or jiggle the tps is bad.
