V6 volt meter gauge...
How accurate are they? For instance,I can be driving at night and the gauge is alittle below 13 volts.I can adjust the dash lights all the way off and the volt go up to about 14 or so volts again.Sometimes if I'm idleing, with my laptop plugged in my lighter socket, the gauge will fluctuate between 13 and lower volts.I put a multimeter on the battery while the car was running, and it showed 14.4 volts with the lights on and radio on as well(no amps, just stocksystem). Can it be the contacts in the cluster are getting old and/or oxidized?

The same thing happens in my car and I have an aftermarket cd player and an amp. It does the same thing without the amp. I also took a multimeter to the battery and read a little more than 14 volts. You're not the only one.

I always thought the gauges in our cars were inaccurate. I know the tach's are off, the fuel gauges are like a suggestion of what you could potentially have for fuel so I figure the volt meter and everything else is off as well.
