Strangest misfire....

Ok guys, throwing this out to you all. I've developed a strange misfire - I can hear it, I can feel it... it's like a very deep quick 'pop' and it makes my tach, for lack of a better word, twitch! I'll be cruising along at 2200rpms, all of a sudden, it starts, and my tach is twitching 2200 to 2700rpms!

Any ideas?

ive had this twice, both times, left me stranded. first time was the ignition module in the distributor, second time was the coil pack. not fun sitting on the side of the highway 45 min away from college, and i have a nice fat test in 30min.

I had a similar thing right before the ignition module failed. It feels like a miss from deep within the engine. Could be the coil too. Certainly sounds like ignition related though.
